Metaldyne Closing Indiana Plant, Cutting 400 Jobs

MetaldyneAuto parts manufacturer Metaldyne, which two weeks ago announced the closure of its plant in Middleville, Michigan, laying off 110 people, will also shutter its New Castle, Indiana facility, putting 400 workers on the street.

The New Castle plant, which produced parts for Chrysler, was the community’s largest employer. It has been operating with only 80 employees for the past few weeks, after the layoffs of 300 workers, which were said at the time to be temporary.

New Castle has a population of 17,800.

Plymouth, Michigan’s Metaldyne makes oil pumps, water pumps and assemblies for transmissions and automotive front ends. It supplies parts to GM, Ford and Chrysler.
