CVS to Hire 600 in New York State

CVS/pharmacy (yes, they spell it that way) will open a new distribution center in Elmira, New York.

Construction will begin this summer on the facility, which will serve as distribution hub for 350 CVS/pharmacy stores.

Empire State Development is giving CVS a $4 million JOBS Now grant, to be disbursed in 2011. In addition, the state Division of Housing & Community Renewal is giving a $750,000 grant to Chemung County, so it can make infrastructure improvements to the site.

Woonsocket, Rhode Island-based CVS/pharmacy is one of the largest pharmacy chains in the United States, with approximately 6,800 stores across 41 states. As the retail pharmacy division of CVS Caremark, it sells prescription drugs and a wide assortment of general merchandise, including over-the counter drugs, beauty products and cosmetics, film and photo finishing services, seasonal merchandise, greeting cards and convenience foods through their CVS/pharmacy and Longs Drugs retail stores, and online.
