milwaukeeskyline (1)Metro Milwaukee saw an increase in job loss last month. The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development released a report on Wednesday which showed job loss in all of the state’s metropolitan areas throughout the past year. The four-county Milwaukee area had the highest rate of loss at 5.9%. That is the highest rate Milwaukee has seen since 1967.

While in August of 2008, Milwaukee bore a modest 5% unemployment rate, just one year later that rate has soared to a staggering 9.3%. Also, the number of jobs in Milwaukee has fallen to its lowest level since 1995.

Kristin Finn, the employer relations manager for Marquette’s Career Services Center gave an optimistic interpretation of the current job market. “Employers are still hiring,” she said. “They’re just not hiring as many people.”
