Lousiana’s Unemployment Rate Rises; 1,300 Jobs Lost In August

LouisianaFlag (1)In the month of August, Louisiana saw another 1,300 jobs lost, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The state agency reported on Friday that since August 2008, around 11,500 jobs have been lost in trade, transportation, and utilities. Manufacturing job loss was not far behind, with an estimated 10,800 jobs lost.

Six out of the eleven industry sectors saw employment levels decrease in August.

A preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Louisiana was 7.8 percent for August. That is up from July’s revised figure of 7.4 percent.

The national unemployment rate rose 9.4 percent in July to 9.7 percent in August.
