NJ Jobless Rate Rises to 10.1%

newjerseyflag_160x120Are you unemployed in NJ? You are not the only one. Unemployment rates climbed to a 33 year high of 10.1% in December. This is the first time since October 2006 that the unemployment rate in NJ has been higher than the national average. Total employment fell to 3,910,400 in December, with heavy job losses in both the private and public sectors.

State officials also determined that November’s employment was revised higher, resulting in a loss of 8,300 jobs. Manufacturing, construction and financial services reported the largest over-the-month private sector job losses.

There were gains in trade, transportation and utilities, professional and business services and the information industry.
