fordThe Kansas City Star is reporting that Missouri Governor, Jay Nixon is asking state lawmakers to pass a bill that would give Ford Motor Company incentives to bring a new vehicle model to Ford’s Claymoco, MO plant.

Although the Missouri Manufacturing Jobs Act will affect all manufacturers in the state, the bill, according to the Star, was written with the Ford plant in mind – the plant employs over 3,900.

The state of Missouri has been hard hit economically in recent years by the decline of the automotive industry.  Missouri has lost approximately 15,000 jobs tied to the auto sector since 2004.

The bill has passed in the house and is expected to get enough senate votes, but as the Governor Nixon noted, Missouri is one state among several competing for the auto maker’s business.
