white houseMarketWatch: In a speech today at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, the director of the White House’s National Economic Council, Larry Summers, told listeners that Americans should be “heartened” that the economy is on the mend, but cautioned that national job growth is still sluggish and short on “normal employment” to the tune of some 8 million jobs.

Summer’s statements seem right on target.  Most states reported an increase in jobs for April.  Many states reported a decrease in unemployment.  Still others reported an increase, citing the fact that many Americans are returning to the job search market.  In any case, there are still not enough jobs to go around, neither is there any indication as to when there will be.  No one questions the White House’s commitment to healing the economy.  We need less talk, though, about commitment and more concrete initiatives to stimulate growth.
