focus_on_the_family_logoThe American evangelical Christian non-profit, Focus On The Family, known for it’s work in promoting interdenominational views on social conservative public policy, announced Friday that it would be laying off over 100 staff members.

The non-profit gave the pink slip to 110 employees, reducing its staff to 750.

Spokesman for the group, Gary Schneeberger had this to say: ” The economy continues to be in recession. And people who have given in the past are having financial difficulties of their own.”

Most of Friday’s layoffs occurred in the service departments, as well as 15 managerial jobs and two senior executive positions, according to Schneeberger.

$27 million, taking it down to $105 million, cut the ministry’s budget for the fiscal year of 2010-11.

The majority of workers affected by the layoffs will receive payment through August 20 and severance packages will be given along with counseling and job placement services.

About 20 of the affected employees volunteered to have their positions cut.
