honda_160x120 Honda Motors Company, a worldwide multinational company that manufactures automobiles and motorcycles, announced a plan to generate about 60 new jobs to its transmission plant located in Russells Point, Ohio in 2011. The 60 additional jobs will be on top of the previously announced 100 new jobs slated for 2012. The Russells Point plant is the Honda’s largest transmission factory in North America. It currently employs about 1,050 workers.

The recent announcement follows Honda’s $70 million expansion plan to improve the Russells Point transmission plant. The expansion plan primarily entails adding about 200,000 square feet in the Russells Point plant and building a third assembly line at the Logan County plant. The Logan County plant will be renovated to increase its production from the current 800,000 automatic transmissions per year to about 1 million.

Ron Lietzke, Honda spokesman, explained that the expansion will increase local production of transmissions resulting in lower importation and will further allow the plant to be capable of producing new models such as the 2012 Honda Civic. “What this project will do is implement the latest transmission technologies to this assembly line.”
