google_160x120 As part of this year’s global hiring, Google announced plans to put about 1,000 new jobs at its headquarters in Ann Harbor, Michigan. Google said that 2011 will be the biggest hiring year since the company started in 1998. Google officials revealed that they are expecting to employ over 6,000 new staff worldwide.

Jake Parrillo, Google spokesman, said that Google is particularly aiming at expanding the company’s AdWords office in Ann Arbor.  However, Parillo did not elaborate on the details as to an exact numbers of new employees to be hired and when.

Senior vice president for engineering and research, Alan Eustace, explained that the global hiring is for the improvement of Goggle’s technology capabilities, which has been slowly overtaken by its competitors. “We’re looking for top talent—across the board and around the globe—and we’ll hire as many smart, creative people as we can to tackle some of the toughest challenges in computer science: like building a web-based operating system from scratch, instantly searching an index of more than 100 million gigabytes and even developing cars that drive themselves.”

Google also confirmed that all of its staff, which is now about 25,000 worldwide, would receive a 10% raise. This decision is a part of the company’s goal to remain competitive in the industry.
