Even Non-resident Workers are Subject to California Overtime Laws

With reference to the ‘overtime claim’ suit filed by three non-resident instructors who worked in California, the California Supreme Court has decided that the state’s overtime laws will be applicable to non-resident workers also. The court declared that California’s overtime law applies to all work performed in the state in excess of eight hours in one work day and 40 hours in one work week regardless of the employee’s place of residence. In Arizona and other states there is no such law, as a result Arizona employers who send their employees to California should be familiarized with the overtime laws.
