A financial service day took place to help students understand what types of careers are available in these fields. It is important for high school and college students to be aware that these job fields are a great source of employment. Some students need this advice to give them that extra push. Many high school students enter college and are unsure of what they really want to do with their lives. Being educated about they types of careers available is very beneficial for these students and can help them to land employment and be successful through the Travelers EDGE program.

Bryant Dominguez, a student at the University of Connecticut, spoke about the financial service day. He says, “As the first in my family to go to college, I struggled with figuring out where to get advice on my education and career.” He also says, “Travelers took me under its wing as an EDGE scholar and provided me with the resources, training and support I needed to keep my academics and life path on track. This summer, I interned with the Community Relations department, and that allowed me to see first-hand the type of company I can work for when I graduate if I keep working hard.”

Travelers not only offers the much needed support to students who are not sure which career path they would like to take, it also works along side of several partners. The Executive Director of the IFS Cluster, Susan Winkler, has aid, “Not only is Travelers doing incredibly important work in the community, but they’re also engaging key business organizations like ours to create an even broader impact.” Winkler also says, “Like Travelers, we recognize that today’s students are tomorrow’s workforce, and we couldn’t be more proud to partner with them to continue giving our youth more opportunities to succeed, which will ultimately create a better region for all of us in which to live and work.”

On financial service day, students from all over were able to find out more information about Travelers EDGE and what the program actually entails. Some of the information that students were able to find out about included how to get help with tuition costs, where and how to receive tutoring and find a mentor, and help with academics. Travelers EDGE once worked with students in colleges but they have now broadened their horizons and are working with high school students as a way of helping them figure out where they want to go and what they want to do in life.

The Travelers EDGE program first began in 2007 and has since helped many students. EDGE stands for Empowering Dreams for Graduation and Employment. The employees of Travelers believe in educating students and helping them to succeed.
