Louisiana is in a state of luck as of now. The unemployment for this southern state has dropped to 6.9 percent. This is the lowest it has dropped in almost two years. The Workforce Commission is the one reporting facts about the unemployment drop. The people who are unemployed in the state have fell from seven percent in October and have kept decreasing as time goes on. The state is seeing drastic numbers from 140,700 to 142,300 who are looking for work and eventually find jobs. Some people who are no longer looking for work eventually fall off the unemployment scale, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.

Jobs are increasing by the thousands in Louisiana which is great news to hear. The non-farming jobs in the state are also increasing. The unemployment rate for November was also smaller than the previous months. “Louisiana has been adding jobs for well over a year, spurred by growth in the private sector,” said Curt Eysink, the Workforce Commission’s executive director.

The holiday season has added a steady increase of jobs. However, even without that adjustment, the state has experienced almost a 50,000 job increase in the past 12 months. Each category is gaining a small but firm amount of jobs, which is a great boost to the economy in Louisiana. Jobs in the construction field have increased. However, the government employment jobs have also decreased.

The two biggest areas of job increase have been in petroleum and manufacturing. “Across the board, these are very good numbers. It’s been a 2.5 percent growth rate, that’s extremely good over the past year. But we have to put in the caveat that we can’t quite be sure of these numbers until March when we start comparing the collection procedure” said economist Loren Scott. Loren is a close follower of what is going on in the unemployment sector of Louisiana.

Data must continue to be gathered so that these numbers are more realistic. It’s tough to not understand exactly what the numbers are but the Bureau of Labor Statistics is getting there. Before any major conclusions can be reached, the numbers have to be exactly accurate and the state is working on that. The state’s approach to figuring out jobs is more realistic than those who do it on a federal level. People are still actively looking for jobs and those who are not are just not counted. There is a huge concern for the people who are always looking for a job because that can really mess up the statistics.

Louisiana aims to have accurate unemployment rate results and that is why it can be a few months before the exact numbers are released. It’s important to have real numbers because otherwise the state might get false hope. The state is hoping for a continued steady increase in the number of jobs that are added to the hurting job market.
