Why Some Women Work Even When They Don’t Have Too

Much hoopla has been raised recently that correlates the happiness of motherhood to keeping and full time or part time job. It has been concluded that mothers with a job outside the home tend to be happier than those who mother full time.

According to a study from the University of Louisville:

Most of the participants said thy would work at least part time even if they didn’t have to. Both married and single mothers said they found more fulfillment and self-confidence in paid work than in parenting, and many believe that these personal benefits accrue to their children.

Women choose to work outside the home for a variety of reasons. Here are some of the reasons given by working mothers:

1. My Kids Are Getting Older

Many families begin to play financial catchup once the youngest child enters into kindergarten. It’s a time to begin paying back debts collected throughout the years. Mothers working a part time or full time job while the children are away at school seems to be a great way to get caught up on that. As children get older, they do not seem to need as much direct help from parents as they did before school. Most can get dressed on their own, feed themselves, and other basic necessities. This means less work for the Mom, so she might as well put the extra energy to good use.

2. The Economy Is Horrible

A lot of the times, the husband provides the source of financial security for the household. However, in these tough economic times, traditions are often set aside for the sake of being able to eat and pay the bills. Whether its harsh budget cuts or the husband gets laid off entirely, more and more, mothers are having to step up to the plate to help provide for the household.

3. I Need It

Ultimately, many women feel that working outside of the home brings them more fulfillment than working within it all the time. After all, getting paid for something is far better than people always need something for free, right? Women getting outside of the home also brings a greater opportunity to build relationships outside the family unit, and build confidence after a doing a good job at work. Many women need this extra sense of fulfillment and seek for it at a job outside of the home.
