A new director of human resources has been hired by York County commissioners, helping to replace a man that they had to fire for a reason that has not been made public yet.

Kristy Bixler, the acting director of human resources, was hired as the director on January 1, 2012. Bixler is replacing the former executive director, Bob Nace, who had been fired behind closed doors in a meeting with commissioners back in September.

The title for Bixler is different than that of the title Nace held, who was in the post for almost five years. Bixler will eventually be relieved of her duties of negotiations with the county unions.

Bixler said that the change in title is, “just a different route the county is looking to take.” It has not been announced when the county will hire a separate person to perform the negotiations with the county’s unions.

Bixler has been employed in human resources since 2002 and will be paid a smaller salary than Nace. Nace earned $92,056 per year with a $45 cell phone allowance each month.

County controller Robb Green said that Bixler’s salary rose from $58,000 to $78,000 along with a $45 cell phone allowance each month.

The responsibilities of the job for Bixler will include recruitment, benefits, risk management, labor negotiations (temporarily) and workers’ compensation. Bixler earned her bachelor of science degree in business from Lock Haven University.

“I think mostly I’m excited about working with everyone throughout the county, working with department heads and seeing if there are ways to improve and work together to make the county an even better employer,” she said.
