As this year’s field of Republican presidential candidates heads into Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary, all of the focus is on the leader of the pack, Mitt Romney. The only one-time Massachusetts governor is on the familiar territory over in the Granite State, and the polls show that Romney is coasting into an easy win.

That is in spite of the increased attacks from the likes of Newt Gringrich and Rick Perry, who has questioned Romney’s conservative credentials. Romney has largely battled the attacks, but the recent claims from the multimillionaire says that he knows what it is like to have to worry about losing a job.

”I know what it’s like to worry about whether you’re going to get fire,” said Romney in the comments in Rochester, N.H. after the Sunday GOP debate. ”There were a couple of times I wondered if I was going to get a pink slip,” all according to CBS News.

But his rivals were having none of any of it. While campaigning over in South Carolina, the Texas Gov. Rick Perry says that it’s not likely that the former Bain Capital executive was worried about getting fire, but rather ”whether he was going to have enough of them to hand out,” report ABC News.

Perry, who is trying to struggle with his own campaign for the Republican nomination, charged that Romney eliminated hundreds of jobs in South Carolina in the wake of downsizing at Bain Capital, which Romney co-founded and led for more than a dozen years in the 1980s and the 1990s.

Former House Leader Newt Gingrich says that Romney has been benefitted from the loss of nearly thousands of jobs. ”Bain, at times, engaged in behavior where they looted a company, leaving behind 1,700 unemployed people,” Gingrich has recently said in a debate over in Concord, N.H.

Speaking on the Monday morning show on NBC’s ”Today Show,” Gingrich tried to defend all of his attacks on Romney. It has been said that Romney is going to need to hold a press conference and walk on through with some considerable detail to the companies that Bain took over where they apparently took from the companies.
For his part of it, Romney repeated all of his claims that Bian invested in business that have now added almost 100,000 more jobs.

Yet still, Romney continues to attract the support of the key Republicans, also including New Jersey Gov. Christy and the former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, both of them who have seen Romney as the most qualified presidential candidate to go up against Presidential Barack Obama in the election in the fall time.

Whether the New Hampshire voters and those in the other states or going to support Romeny based on his claims that he knows what it is like to be in an everyday work situation. But the controversy that the claim has created is not going to go away anytime soon.
