Millions of IT Jobs to Be Created By 2015

Many people were expecting a poor economic outlook at the Symposium/ITxpo due to a number of poor quarterly reports from several different companies, including Intel and IBM. While there were low and gloomy expectations, Peter Sondergaard, the head of research for Gartner, recently painted a much brighter picture, which has surprised a large number of people. Gartner has not revising the growth forecast very much, which is still down for the expectations that were once made for the year. However, the flat revenue forecast that Garter is currently dealing with is not causing problems with the amount of jobs available, especially within the big data sector of IT.

Big data basically includes all of the data that is collected and also analyzed from tons of different source and, it has helped to create a large number of jobs, especially as businesses are looking for ways to turn this data into a way for them to make money. It is believed that within the next three years, by the time 2015 approaches, a total of 4.4 million IT jobs will have been created across the globe. And, of those 4.4 million jobs, a total of 1.9 million are expected to be located directly in the United States.

Gartner believes that the big data aspect of IT jobs will help to improve the economy because more jobs will be available, helping people to find employment and ultimately lowering the unemployment rates. Those who are already in the tech industry will not have nearly as much trouble finding a job because of the availability of positions within the sector. The only problem, however, is the fact that there is currently a shortage of skilled employees to take on these positions. With so many positions being made available, the truth is that only a third of those jobs will end up being filled unless more people become skilled in this field. Sondergaard said, “There is not enough talent in the industry. Education is failing us.”

The CTO for the Northeast Georgia Health System, Griff Law, recently said that it is hard to find people to fill in positions for data analytics and for all jobs that relate to information technology because many people lack the necessary skills and training for such positions. Law said, “From a healthcare perspective, I can certainly see the demand.” He also says that his company has currently had about 15 positions open and available for the last half of the year, unable to fill the positions for at least six months. Several of these jobs that are available relate directly with data analytics.
