The Road HomeMore than 500 workers for the Road Home hurricane recovery program will be laid off over the next few months as Louisiana switches contractors.

An estimated 516 workers will be laid off between now and the end of ICF International’s contract in June.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission says the layoffs will begin this Friday.

The agency will hold a networking event next week in Baton Rouge, to help the workers find new employment.

The new contractor is Hammerman & Gainer, a Lutcher-based company that is one of ICF’s largest subcontractors.

The Road Home gives aid to homeowners with severe property damage from hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
