Google Hiring Amid Layoffs

Google is hiring 360 positions, after announcing plans this week to lay off almost 200 sales and marketing employees.

The openings range from software engineers to sales and marketing positions.

The Internet search giant acknowledged over-hiring in certain areas when it announced the 200 layoffs. In January, Google said it would eliminate 100 full-time recruiters; and the shuttering of its broadcast radio advertising business resulted in 40 layoffs.

Half of the job openings are in Google’s US operations.

Google employed 20,222 people at the end of 2008.
