Stimulus Cash Creates Conservation Jobs for “Hard to Employ” Youth

US Forest ServiceThe US Forest Service is spending $1.15 billion in federal stimulus funds to create jobs.

In Southern California, the funds are being used to hire young urban adults to perform forestry and conservation jobs in the Angeles National Forest, through the San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps and Outward Bound Los Angeles.

The jobs will last from four months to a year.

The San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps project will repair 5-mile stretches along trails in the Angeles National Forest

Outward Bound Los Angeles has received $500,000 in stimulus funding to train 24 “hard to employ” young adults in environmental work. Trainees will learn habitat restoration, trail maintenance & engineering, and brush clearance.
