Kansas Lost 36,500 Jobs in April

Kansas flagThe Kansas Department of Labor reports that the Sunflower State lost 36,500 non-farm jobs in April, a decline of 2.6%. About 1.36 million Kansans had non-farm jobs last month.

The state’s unemployment was 6.1%, almost twice the 3.5% rate reported in April 2008. The national unemployment rate rose to 8.9% last month.

Kansas is the 33rd largest US state by population, with an estimated 2,802,000 residents.
