Seminole County, FL Schools to Avoid Layoffs

seminolecountyschools_160x1The Seminole County, Florida School District will spend $22 million in federal stimulus money to pay the salaries of 401 school teachers, including 150 who would otherwise have been laid off. In fact, the district will hire 31 new teachers.

But some job cuts will still be made, including 79 non-teaching jobs.

The district says one teaching position has 300 applicants; another has 180.

The Seminole County School District, the 52nd largest in the nation, employs 4,600 teachers.
