departmentofenergy_160x120The State of Wisconsin will get $56.6 million in Federal stimulus funds to weatherize thousands of homes over the next three years.

The state has received a total of $70.7 million to fund hiring, training, and execution of the initiative. If the Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program is judged to be successful, the state will get another $70.8 million.

The new hires will install air sealing, attic insulation and sidewalls, plus install replacement refrigerators, electric water heaters, furnaces and lighting.

The program targets families that make up to twice the national poverty level of $22,000 per year for a family of four, as well as the elderly and disabled.
