censusbureau_160x120Are you looking for work and living in Houston, Texas or the surrounding area? The U.S. Census will hire 15,000 temporary workers in the coming months to assist in conducting the 2010 census. These jobs are temporary, with some lasting through July. Pay ranges from $8-$24 an hour depending on geographic location and skill. The average pay of a door to door census worker in the Houston area will be $11.25 an hour. The Census Bureau mails out questionnaires in March. Census workers will visit households who have failed to return their census form and assist them in filling out the forms. Most work will be performed in the evening and during the weekends. Census workers can expect to work 30 hours a week or less.

Potential census workers must provide their own transportation but will be reimbursed for mileage. All applicants must pass a basic test covering math, reading and organizational skills and an FBI background check before being interviewed for a position.
