Report: Los Angeles Leads Way in Lost Jobs

bureau of labor statsResults of a new study from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows employment declined in 324 U.S. counties from June 2008 to June 2009 with Los Angeles County topping the list. Overall, national employment was 129.7 million in June 2009, which is a 5.1 percent decrease from the previous year.

Employment was down by 256,700 in Los Angeles. It is followed by Maricopa, Ariz. (-149,900), Cook, Ill. (-137,700), Orange, Calif. (-119,700), and New York, N.Y. (-113,200).

The largest percentage decline in employment came in Elkart, Ind. (-21.9 percent). Macorn, Mich. (-13.2 percent) was next followed by Trumbull, Oh. (-12.2 percent), Wayne, Mich. (-11.6 percent) and Collier, Fla. (-11.3 percent).
