cash_160x120Department store chain Boscov’s is now hiring 240 additional employees in 39 stores across Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware. There is no word as to whether these positions are full or part time. Boscov’s was established in 1911 and is one of the few remaining family owned department stores in the United States. In August 2008 the store filed for Chapter 11 protection. It closed 10 stores and received court approval in September to conclude its bankruptcy case. Under their restructuring plan, all of the old company’s assets were transferred to a trust with distributions made to claim holders. The company was saved from liquidation when the judge in the bankruptcy case approved the sale of the store to the families of store founder Albert Boscov and Edwin Lakin, the son and son-in-law of the store’s founder.
