The city of Kalamazoo will be hiring new employees very soon, as nearly 200 different employees will be leaving their positions because of the Early Retirement Incentive. As of right now, the city is desperately searching for the right candidates to fill the different positions. The human resources director for the city, Jerome Post, says that as more positions become available, more positions are posted, allowing the people of Kalamazoo to know that these positions are available so that they can apply. Post also says that the city is expecting to see many more vacancies in the near future which means that even more positions will be available within the next few weeks.

All of these positions that will be available will vary from one another but basically have to do with different departments that will be located within the city. Post says that each of the departments in the city will likely have one opening, but will probably have even more openings than that. In fact, the Department of Public Safety for the city of Kalamazoo has even set plans to head over to the career fair, looking for military veterans who would be the perfect fit for certain available positions. There will be two more career fairs held throughout the month of March, enabling the people in and around the city to find out about these available positions and apply if they can or want to. Of course, in order to be considered for the position, individuals must actually have the proper qualifications for the different positions.

For those who did not know, the Early Retirement Incentive was introduced in the fall and was proposed as a way of eliminating some of the workforce within the city. This will help the city to save money but will also be fine for those who choose to retire a bit early. Just about 219 employees are choosing to retire early and many of their positions will need to be filled. However, every single position will not be filled. There will be a restructuring plan set to place to figure out how some of these positions can be permanently eliminated.

The commissioner, Barb Miller, says that there are a lot of employees who are kind of worried about what is going to happen with their department after the restructuring takes place. They do not know what will happen or what they should expect. However, the vice mayor, Hannah McKinney, believes that the Early Retirement Incentive was a great move to make for the city. It is a move that helps the city with a deficit without forcing tons of layoffs upon the employees who are working for the city of Kalamazoo.
