BP: Settlements Challenged in Gulf Oil Spill

BP is going on the offensive in challenging some settlement payouts resulting from its 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. To get its message out, BP paid for full-page ads in three national newspapers. The ads alleged that trial lawyers and some politicians have urged businesses to submit fraudulent claims. BP is appealing a decision by a federal judge in Louisiana who upheld an administrator’s analysis of the settlement the company had reached with plaintiffs’ lawyers. The BP ad states that the court decision would result to payouts of businesses that did not incur spill-related losses.
