It was announced on Friday that an investment of $80.5 million will bring 1,000 jobs to Anderson County when SL Tennessee, LLC builds its third manufacturing facility, according to WBIR.

The new facility will be 250,000-square-feet and will join the two existing facilities in the Clinton Industrial Park.

The company manufactures automotive parts and has been operating in Clinton since 2001. This is the fifth expansion for the company from South Korea.

Governor Bill Haslam said the following during the announcement:

“To me one of the great stories here is this is a company that started here 13 years ago and just about every three years they’ve added to their business so it says a lot about Anderson County, Clinton, and the work environment that’s here that a company like this that literally could grow anywhere has made that kind of an investment here.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in August of 2014 and should be operational by April of 2015. The facility is going to manufacture head lamps and tail lamps. At the new Clinton location, the company will also consolidate its data infrastructure for North America.

SL America President Y. K. Woo said, “The biggest number [of jobs] will be manufacturing the quality parts on the floor and also we need a lot of jobs to manage and to plan and work with our customers in the market.”

Terry Frank, the Mayor of Anderson County, said, “We’re like every other place in this country. Since 2008, the economic downturn, everyone’s still trying to fight their way out of that so 1,000 jobs is just a wonderful security blanket. It provides real opportunities for people.”

SL Tennessee has announced the creation of 1,300 new jobs in Anderson County, Clinton, TN over the last two years with $200 million in investments.

This is the second automotive company to announce the creation of at least 1,000 jobs in the state of Tennessee in the last two weeks. Volkswagen said it will bring 2,000 new jobs to the state just last week.
