Dole Food Co. Expanding in Springfield by Adding 140 New Jobs

Summary: Dole Food Co. has announced that it will expand its plant in Springfield with a $9 million investment and the creation of 140 new jobs. 

As many as 140 new jobs will come to Springfield in Clark County as Dole Food Co. announced its plans for expansion, according to The Dayton Business Journal.

A plant in Springfield will expand to add three packaging lines and a processing line. The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce said that 140 new jobs are expected to be added following a $9 million investment from the company.

“Our Springfield facility was the best location for us to expand and add this new capacity,” said John Lochra, plant manager. “This investment will add new capabilities to our Springfield operations allowing us to supply the northeastern portion of the United States more efficiently.”

Dole Foods Company Inc. which is based in Westlake Village, California, opened its Springfield plant back in 2003. The plant packages fresh vegetable salads for the East Coast. The plant has 800 employees right now.

“Dole has been a significant employer in the Greater Springfield community since 1997,” said Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce President Mike McDorman. “The Chamber, CIC, City of Springfield, Dayton Development Coalition and JobsOhio worked closely with Dole to help meet their immediate and long-term needs. We are excited they have chosen to continue to grow their operations in Clark County.”

Companies that want to commit major investments or job growth in the area usually receive incentives from the Ohio Tax Credit Authority.

“Dole’s announcement demonstrates yet another valuable investment in the Dayton region,” said Jeff Hoagland, President and CEO of the Dayton Development Coalition. “Ohio continues to provide the necessary attraction benefits to companies looking to expand and companies looking to relocate to attractive markets.”

This is the second major announcement for Clark County. Speedway LLC recently announced that it will invest $9.1 million and create 350 new jobs.
