The Department of Labor suggested on December 8, 2011 that it would require all federal contractors and subcontractors to employ 7 percent of their workforce as persons with disabilities. This is a major change from previous rules, where the contractors and subcontractors simply had to show a “good faith” effort to hire persons with disabilities. The companies will now be required to make an extra effort to hire persons with disabilities and retain them.
