Atkinson Series: Tips for the young and jobless – Toronto Star

I’ve been immersed in the issue of youth unemployment for two years now. I’ve spent hundreds of hours speaking to all manner of experts — economists and educators, career counsellors and youth workers, entrepreneurs and tradespersons and even a former prime minister. I’ve listened to the stories of dozens of young adults, many of them struggling to gain a foothold in the world of work, many of them anxious, frustrated or bewildered.But on an individual level, every young adult and parent I speak to asks me a simple question. What’s your best advice for me or my kid? Indeed, I’ve pondered what I would tell my own teenager or twentysomething if I had one.
