SPARTA Composite Products will invest $13.2 million to open a manufacturing facility in Suffolk, Virginia, creating 198 jobs through 2014.

Governor Tim Kaine’s office said the company will use the facility to manufacture composite parts for the aerospace and defense industry.

The new facility is expected to be operational in December, and hiring will begin in Q3 2009.

Kaine says SPARTA already has a significant presence in Virginia, with operations in three different localities. The company makes advanced composite products for aircraft, as well as missile and munitions products for the defense industry.

Kaine approved a $300,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund for the project.
