SAGE Adding 160 ‘Green Jobs’ in Minnesota

sageSAGE Electrochromics announced it has secured over $100 million in federal funding that will be used to build a manufacturing plant in Fairbault Min. An additional160 full-time “green” manufacturing and technology jobs are expected to be added.

The 250,000 square foot facility will be used to manufacture energy-saving, electronically tintable glass, according to a press release from Sage. It is being funded mainly through a $72 million loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy and a $31 million advanced energy manufacturing tax credit Sage was awarded earlier this year.

In addition to the permanent positions, more than 200 construction jobs will be created during the construction phase. Groundbreaking is scheduled for this summer and the facility is expected to be completed during the latter part of 2011.

Sage Electronics was founded in 1989. According to its web site, it is the only company in the world to have developed commercially available, electronically tintable glass.
