virginia beachVirginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms announced Avis Budget Group and Geico plan to hire or relocate 210 workers to the city.

Avis expects to move 15 workers to Virginia Beach and hire 85 additional management and support staff employees. Geico, based in Chevy Chase, Md., has already hired 65 people and will add 45 more employees in the coming months.

Avis Budget is expected to apply for $150,000 in economic development funds from the city. Warren Harris, the city’s economic development director, told the newspaper the availability of the funds “helped secure the deal,” but wasn’t part of the agreement.

Geico’s expansion will not include city subsidies.
