Save-A-Lot is opening a new distribution center in Davidson County, N.C. that will provide 43 new jobs.

The $24-million facility will be used to supply the grocery’s chains six corporate retail stores and 11 licensee retail stores in North Carolina and the surrounding area, Gov. Bev Perdue said in a press release.

“Our long term strategy for creating jobs and launching North Carolina into full economic recovery is clearly working,” Perdue said. “Our investments in education, training and transportation have created a skilled workforce and top-rated business climate that continue to make North Carolina an attractive location for businesses looking to expand or relocate.”

The jobs at the distribution center will pay an average salary of $30,000 a year.

The facility is designed to “serve our current stores more efficiently and at the same time grow our business in the region,” said Bill Shaner, Save-A-Lot president and chief executive officer.
