General Dynamics to Add 500 New Jobs in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

General Dynamics_logo General Dynamics, a worldwide contractor for shipbuilding and marine systems, defense systems, land and amphibious combat systems and munitions, announced a plan to expand its workforce at its facility in Pittsfield, Massachusetts after sealing a new Navy contract. General Dynamics officials reported that they will need to add over 500 new jobs in Pittsfield, mostly engineering positions, to support its new operations. The company said the Pittsfield’s workforce will be increased by 50%.

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Senator John Kerry expressed their excitement over the upcoming expansion.  Kerry noted that with the aid of national government, the state is now focusing on creating new jobs in Western Massachusetts. “Jobs, jobs, and jobs are priority number one in Western Massachusetts, which is why we banded together to push for this Navy contract. These aren’t just statistics, these are hundreds of real jobs for real families, and I’m proud that we fought every inch of the way and won.”

The General Dynamics plant in Pittsfield builds coastal combat ships for the US defense force. The ships are being sent to the shipyard in Mobile, Alabama once completed. The company currently employs over 90,000 employees worldwide.
