An American career expert has revealed six magical tips to overhaul one’s resume to bag the much-wanted job. Ellen Gordon Reeves, author of ‘ Can I Wear My Nosering to the Interview’, insists that its important to get rid of certain useless phrases to make sure that the resume is more frequently picked up. Reeves suggests that information like ‘skills’ should either be incorporated into the resume itself or backed-up with specifics. She also says that it can go into a cover letter, CBS news reported. “Create a resume format that works for you. Don’t feel tied to the traditional functional or chronological structure for resumes. New times call for new forms,” Reeves said. She insists that job seeker’s goal is to show off their skills to best advantage. In the next tip she advises that however you choose to organize your resume, stay away from the phrases like ‘Professional Experience.’ Instead, pick up a more specific title like ‘Human Resource Experience.’ “Because it will likely be in a larger, bolder font on your resume, the section header always catches an employer’s eye,” Reeves explained. ‘Professional Experience’ doesn’t tell the hiring manager what kind of job you want, or what kind of job you’re looking for. In another tip she insists on keeping away from the use of self-assessing language. “As an employer I’m thinking ‘I’ll be the judge of that, don’t tell me what to think of your skills,'” she said. “I’ll know by seeing what you’ve actually done and by calling your references. So don’t waste any time on that sort of stuff.”Accusing the Government of indecision, BJP on Tuesday promised to accord ‘first priority’ to creation of Telangana state if voted to power at the Centre, as its cadre tried to march towards the Prime Minister’s residence, forcing police to use tear gas shells against them. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley blamed ‘policy paralysis’ of the UPA Government for its indecision on the separate state issue and accused it of ‘outsourcing’ its job on the decision to a Committee headed by former judge.Addressing a protest fast by Andhra Pradesh BJP chief Kishan Reddy, Jaitley said, “The BJP once it comes to power will take up creation of Telangana as its first job. We will give first priority to formation of Telangana. There shall be no doubt about it.” Jaitley was highly critical of the Government’s decision to appoint Justice B.N. Srikrishna Committee to suggest ways to end the Telangana crisis, saying ‘no one understands the report. The government outsourced it to a Judge. It was the Government’s job to resolve’. BJP, the principal Opposition party at the Centre, is supporting the demand for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, arguing that smaller states bring in a lot of development and cites Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chhatisgarh as examples. The Opposition Leader also accused the Congress of ‘continuously cheating’ the people of Telangana. Jaitley was addressing the protesters after hundreds of them were stopped outside the Parliament Street Police Station, less than a km from the highly-fortified Parliament House complex, as they marched from Jantar Mantar. The BJP cadres led by party leader Prakash Javadekar tried breaking the barricades after they were stopped by a large posse of policemen outside the station and even attempted to clash with the police. With protesters insisting that they would march towards Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s residence, police warned them that they would use force to quell them as they did not have permission. As the warning went unheeded, the men in khaki used water cannons and tear gas shells to disperse the protesters from the area. After a while, the protesters led by Javadekar courted arrested and went inside the station where they raised slogans against the Government. Shouts of ‘Jai Telangana’, ‘We are ready to face lathi and bullets for Telangana’ resonated the area as hundreds of protesters courted arrest. The protestors were demanding that the Centre take immediate steps to form a separate state of Telangana.Air travel became costlier on Tuesday with major Indian carriers hiking fuel surcharge on tickets, ranging from Rs 150 to Rs 250 for domestic travel and USD 15 (Rs 825) for a one-way international ticket, following an almost eight per cent increase in jet fuel prices. While Air India introduced the increased fuel surcharge on Tuesday itself, Jet Airways and its subsidiary JetKonnect would raise it from Wednesday, officials of both airlines said. Under the new regime, an increase of Rs 150 in the surcharge would be applicable on all sectors less than 1,000 kms and Rs 250 for those beyond that distance. A blanket hike of USD 15 would be effected on all one-way international tickets. The domestic fuel surcharge for a distance of over 1000 kms so far was Rs 3250, which would now go up to Rs 3500. The surcharge so far was Rs 1600 on a ticket for less than 1000 km distance. A Jet Airways spokesperson said the hike in fuel surcharge would be effective from Wednesday, while an Air India official said the increase has been effected on all bookings from Tuesday. Officials of no-frill airlines, like IndiGo and SpiceJet, remained tight-lipped about when they would give effect to the hike but were of the opinion that this steep rise in jet fuel prices would hit their financial bottomline. We are studying the impact of a steep hike of aviation turbine fuel prices on our operational costs which are high in any case. We are studying the situation and may take a decision soon,” one of the airline officials said, requesting anonymity. The increase in fuel surcharge was neccesitated following the steep rise in the price of aviation turbine fuel by 7.6 per cent last week, the officials said. In the fourth straight increase in rates since July, oil marketing companies last week hiked ATF price by a steep 7.6 per cent to an all-time high of Rs 72,282 per kilolitre. Jet fuel constitutes almost 50 per cent of an Indian carrier’s operating costs, compared to 20-25 per cent globally. This is primarily due to the high taxes on ATF by the states – ranging from four per cent to 30 per cent. Though international airlines operating to India are exempted from state-level taxes, they also pay nearly 16 per cent more than the global average when their aircraft fill in their tanks here. Airline companies have been demanding reduction in taxes and have also sought and received permission from the government to import ATF directly. Government has given permission to Kingfisher Airlines, SpiceJet, IndiGo, Go Airlines and Air India. High airfares have been a major reason for domestic air travel to record its steepest fall in seven years in July when 45.4 lakh people flew, 10 per cent less than 50.4 lakh recorded in the same month last year. While airlines blame the high fares on rising fuel cost and hike in user development fees in Delhi and Mumbai, air travel estimates for 2012-13 have forecast that passenger traffic growth this year would slow down from 11 per cent, projected earlier, to seven per cent.
