Summary: Have you ever felt that your job deserves higher pay? If so, this article is perfect for you. We have compiled a list of the top jobs that deserve a better payday.

Working 40-plus hours per week and then going home to run a household or heading off to night classes is never fun. You feel worn down and think that there is no end in sight. Maybe you work a job that should come with higher pay. Maybe your job actually pays minimum wage and you are hoping this gets bumped up by the government in order to improve your living situation. We have put together a list of the top jobs that deserve a pay increase in this post. If your job is on the list, leave us some thoughts in the comments section.

Teachers

Teaching is one of the oldest professions in the world and should be one of the most respected. There is not enough respect out there for teachers these days, whether it comes from the students or the parents. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national annual average for elementary school teacher salaries comes in at $53,000. In some states, this number is not even close to being met.

Teachers have to mold the minds of children for at least 180 days per school year, deal with complaints from parents, buy supplies for the classroom and much more. With the amount of patience, time, energy and out-of-pocket money involved, the teaching profession is one that deserves a much higher salary. Those who want to teach have to earn at least a bachelor’s degree and acquire a state certificate.

Nurses

Nursing is another very important profession in our country. These individuals are responsible for keeping people healthy and alive during an emergency in hospitals, doctor’s offices and care centers. The amount of schooling, studying and dedication lent to this profession by those who perform the job is immeasurable. Even though nurses can earn anywhere from $50,000-$110,000 per year, depending on the state in which they work, they are still underpaid. Nurses are the frontline of defense at doctor offices and hospitals when patients come in either sick or healthy. They take vital signs, administer medication, perform CPR and much more.

Members of the Military

Anyone who puts their life on the line on a constant basis for their country should be paid a much higher salary than what is offered right now. Almost everyone who joins the military does it for reasons other than the pay, which more often than not does not match their skills or talents. For those in the military who have close to six years of experience, the average annual pay might not even come close to reaching $50,000. Then, take into account those members who are also medics. They need to receive training in both the medical field and military operations.

Chefs

When you think about it, chefs are responsible for the food we eat at restaurants, bars, hotels and stadiums. They make sure that the food is cooked properly, to order, and free of any issues. Chefs typically spend five or more years learning the industry and how to properly prepare food, which is why they should be compensated at a much higher rate than they are right now. Chefs typically make a little less than $42,000 per year on average, according to the BLS. Line cooks at chain restaurants are paid less than $25,000 per year, according to Salary.com.
