GM Bringing 80 New Jobs to Defiance, Ohio

gm_160x120General Motors Co. plans to make a $59 million investment in the Defiance Powertrain plant in Defiance, Ohio that will bring 80 jobs to the area.

The announcement was made at by state and company officials at the plant’s aluminum division headquarters. It involves “the installation of equipment to manufacture engine blocks for the next generation of Ecotec engine.”

There are currently 1,300 hourly and salaried workers at the plant, according to The Crescent-News.

GM’s announcement in Defiance is part of a $494 million effort involving the Ecotec engine. Components produced in Ohio will be included in the Chevrolet Cruze, a new compact car scheduled for release later this year.
