An annual report filed by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) states that the demand for solar has doubled in the last year resulting in the creation of thousands of new jobs in the industry.

“The solar industry added 17,000 new jobs coast to coast,” said Rhone Resch, president and CEO of SEIA. “Residential installations grew from 78 megawatts in 2008 to 156 megawatts in 2009.”

The report gives credit to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) for stimulating the market.

Leading the way has been California, installing 220 megawatts last year, compared to New Jersey in a distant second at 57 megawatts.
