geGeneral Electric (GE) Aviation announced the investment of $8 million into their Durham, North Carolina plant, leading to 40 new positions being created this year. The expansion is due to an increasing volume of aircraft engine manufacturing and servicing work.

GE Aviation has other plants in North Carolina, including parts and components production facilities in Wilmington, West Jefferson and Asheville. The Durham plant currently employs about 320 workers.

The expanded workforce and the $8 million investment in the facility and equipment will enable us to manage the growing production volume of GE’s new fuel-efficient GEnx engine for the Boeing 787 and 747-8 aircraft along with the increased production for GE90, CFM56, GP7200+ and CF34 engine lines,”  said Durham plant manager Doug McLean in a written statement.
