homedepot_160x120Temporary good news has come for the unemployed as Home Depot Inc. announces that will hire over 60,000 seasonal employees in the United States. Additionally, the employer says that it will add an unspecified number of permanent employees, making it the second year in a row that the employer has gained employees.

The retail giant is preparing for its busiest season of the year, which occurs from March to Mid-June, according to the executive vice president of merchandising, Craig Menear.

As of January 31, 2010, Home Depot employed 317,00 people. A staggering number of those, 298,000, were either hourly or seasonal employees. However, 61 percent of those worked full-time hours.

If analysts are correct, Home Depot generated around $67.7 billion revenue last year, marking the first yearly increase in over four years.

According to Commerce Department figures, household purchase grew by 4.4 percent in the fourth quarter and household purchase account for nearly 70 percent of the economy.
