On March 29, 2011, ground was broken and a tree was planted in San Antonio for a new Nationwide Insurance building.  The company is planning on hiring 800 new insurance workers, with a focus on bilingual workers that can speak both English and Spanish.  1000 current Nationwide Insurance employees from San Antonio will also be transferred to the new facility when it is complete.

San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro said, “We applaud Nationwide for choosing San Antonio for this major expansion, which adds more than 800 jobs to our economy and fuels continued growth in our Financial Services industry sector.”

The new facility will be 300,000 square feet and have the capacity for 2,000 employees.  It will also include a cafeteria, fitness center, and courtyard area.  Completion of the new facility is planned by the middle of 2012.
