Due to increasingly expensive healthcare premiums, quite a few employers across the country may soon be moving the cost of healthcare to their employees.  Before you make the change, consider these three things.

First of all, if you shift more costs to your employees, some may stop going to the doctor or go less frequently, which in the long run will mean that you will have a sicker workforce, potentially leaving you with more frequent bigger claims to deal with instead of more frequent small ones.

Second, if you feel like your employees will go to the doctor less if you increase their healthcare costs, instead of increasing the costs, you can create wellness initiatives that will motivate your employees to participate in wellness type programs or check-ups, giving you healthier employees that end up costing you less in major medical expenses.

Third, if you can’t think of any other option but to move healthcare costs to your employees, you can make it easier on them by offering additional voluntary benefits as well as flexible spending accounts, or FSAs.
